Foodbank Hunger and Food Insecurity: The Root Causes and Consequences of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore- September is Hunger Action Month, a month where people all over America stand together with Feeding America and the nationwide network of food banks to fight hunger. The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is taking action by releasing a report analyzing the root causes of food insecurity in our community. On September 26 at 5:30 p.m. we will host a Stakeholder and Community Leader Conversation at Slover Library about strategies for addressing these causes. Guest speakers will include Claire Babineaux- Fontenot, Chief Executive Officer of Feeding America; Dr. Ruth T. Jones Nichols, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore; and Dr. Harry Zhang, Associate Professor at Old Dominion University. Register for the event by calling 757-627-6599. HUNGER HEROES! Thank you to the 40 teams that participated in this year's Hunger Heroes Corporate Food Frenzy competition! Your hard work and dedication raised over $64,000 and over 19,000 pounds of food, equating to over 176,000 meals for our neighbors in need. Congratulations to this year's winners!
