Gongratulations Wayne Salley Strome College of Business's Wayne Talley, eminent scholar and professor of maritime and supply chain management, has been awarded the 2018 Onassis Prize in Shipping, an international award recognizing his work on ports and the risks of terrorism and piracy to the shipping industry The Onassis Prizes recognize outstanding academics in the fields of finance, international trade and shipping. Prizes are sponsored by the Onassis Foundation and, together with Cass Business School in London, are awarded every three years. Dr. Anthony Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and Chair of the judging panel said, The contributions made to the research in these fields by todays winners is such that we can safely say they have brought us not one but many steps closer to the knowledge we will enjoy in the future." Talley has been a moving force within Strome since 1972, founding Old Dominion University's Maritime Institute and currently serving as the executive director of the program. The Maritime Institutes mission is to provide the highest quality maritime, ports and logistics management education, training and research to meet regional, national and international needs. The Institute provides a focal point for educational services and research programming that is responsive to port-related needs of Hampton Roads, Virginia and other port-related facilities in the world.
