Broderick, a recipient of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) President's Award honoring his outstanding work in advancing the quality of student life on campus by supporting student success and maximizing the student experience. Old Dominion University President John Broderick Honored with National Award from NASPA Broderick, who was appointed the eighth president of ODU in 2008, has established initiatives to set old Dominion apart from other universities, During his tenure, Old Daminion has graduated more than 50,000 students; awarded Virginia's second-largest percentage of degrees in STEM-H (science, technology, engineering, math and health care: received more than $861.6 million in new public and private resources; and been recognized in the top 15% nationally for retaining and graduating African American students Broderick is also a national leader on the subject of higher education affordability and social mobility a giant in spurring the region's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, and a prominent voice in combating sea level rise and promoting recurrent flooding resilience. A strong advocate for divesity and inclusion, Broderick launched the President's Task Force for Inclusive Excellence, and the Diversity Champion Award was renamed in his honor, In addition, the Broderick Dining Commons was named for the President and First Lady Kate Broderick at the request of student leaders to recognize their commitment to inclusion initiatives and student success. President Broderick, along with Janet NapolitanD president of the Uaiversity of California, will be presented with the President's Award on March 12 at NASPA's annual conference, in Los Angeles.
